The University of South Carolina School of Law is celebrating its 150th anniversary. A celebration will take place on November 2-4. This event will commemorate the opening of the school’s new home and recognize the contributions of faculty and students in the past 150 years.

The new location includes a beautiful building with state-of-the-art technology. Two visiting professors will join the faculty this semester. One is a clinical instructor and director of the Veterans Legal Clinic, while another is a distinguished Seton Hall Law alumnus. Each of the two professors is involved with the school’s newest scholarship to improve outcomes for victims of domestic violence.

The new location will also house the Children’s Law Center, which will soon have a first-class teaching space. The center will also enhance its efforts to protect children. Currently, the program focuses on educating the community about the rights of children.

The University of South Carolina School of Law has recently announced its new faculty members for the 2022-23 academic year. The class is one of the most academically talented in the school’s history. It meets or exceeds all recent metrics. During the next year, the class will also be recognized for outstanding achievements.

A new scholarly publication from the University of South Carolina School of Law will focus on the impact of the Dobbs decision. This journal will be published in the fall of 2022. In addition, the school will celebrate its 150th anniversary with a symposium on November 2-4. During the event, Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States will deliver the keynote address.

The school has also recently announced two endowed chairs: the Marino Tortorella & Boyle Professor of Law and the Stephen A. Cochran Endowed Chair in Business Transactions. Currently, the school has four endowed chairs, and the remaining three will be awarded in the spring of 2019.

The School of Law will also welcome two visiting professors this semester. One is a distinguished Seton Hall Law grad and director of the Veteran’s Legal Clinic, while the other is a distinguished Wake Forest Law School professor.

Additionally, the School of Law has received a $1.035 million donation from the Konduros Fisherman Fund. This gift will be used to fund the school’s upcoming academic year. It is an example of the school’s continued commitment to the local community and to supporting the economic development of the Midlands.

Throughout the rest of the semester, the School of Law will host a number of events. Students and faculty will be joining together at 14 locations across the Midlands. Those participating include the incoming class, faculty, and peer mentors.

Additionally, the School of Law will be partnering with Virgin Hyperloop One and the University of North Carolina’s College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences. These partnerships will support the school’s mission of preparing future legal leaders to serve the needs of a diverse community.

Finally, the School of Law will continue its tradition of recognizing the academic success of its incoming class. For example, this past August, 217 new students started their first year of law school.
